Arriving to Hurghada

From abroad
Hurghada International and Domestic Airport, 10 minutes ride from city center, is receiving many flights through out the year. Most common are charter flights to Hurghada, which you can check out from your travel agent. Increasingly, regular flights are operating.
Before planning your holiday, check out the entry regulations. In some cases visa must be applied for from local embassy. However, for most of the nations, touristic visa can be easily obtained upon arrival from airport - either it is included in your travel package or you shall buy one from airport bank (ca 15 USD). The visa is valid for 30 days and can be prolonged for extra charge in Visa office located in El Dahar. Be aware that after stay of 90 days no charter flight is allowed for departure!
Upon arrival all passengers are given entry forms which must be filled for the passport control. Same applies to departure. Make sure that the passport is valid for at least six months from date of entry.

Plucked from obscurity during the early days of the Red Sea’s tourism drive, the fishing village of Hurghada has long since morphed into today’s dense band of concrete that marches along the coastline for more than 20km. Rampant construction has left the town blighted by half-finished shells of pleasure palaces never realised, while the coral reefs closest to the shore have been degraded by illegal landfill operations and irresponsible reef use. In recent years Hurghada’s star has largely lost its lustre with package holiday-makers, while independent travellers prefer to press on to Dahab.

It's not all bad news though. Further offshore there is still superb diving aplenty; local NGOs are helping the town clean up its act; and the southern resort area, and Sigala's modern marina, have brought back some of Hurghada's sheen. It's still a convenient destination if you want to combine a diving holiday with the Nile Valley sites.

Hurghada has a variety of activities for those who enjoy the sea and the beach. Activities include scuba-diving, snorkeling, windsurfing, parasailing, and jetskis. You can also ride a glass boat (a boat with a glass bottom) where you can see the amazing coral reefs and underwater scenery.

The main reason to visit Hurghada is the Red Sea, which is excellent for diving or snorkeling. See incredible coral reefs and hundreds of varieties of tropical fish just 10 m from the beach. Again, either your hotel will have dive escorts on site, or it can arrange a scuba diving expedition with guides. Scuba diving (2 dives) cost between 50-65 USD. The divers are locals and are excellent in handling beginners.

In late March, the water may be a bit cold, so a wetsuit might be necessary. It might also be windy in late March (and just as likely may not be). You may want to check if your resort hotel provides windscreens on the beach.

For a desert adventure, you can also ride motorbikes or beach buggies into the desert.

Hurghada is an ideal point for trips by bus to Cairo and Luxor. The road between Hurghada and Luxor take around 3.5 hours. the road between Hurghada And Cairo take around 6 hours

Stunning coral reefs and turquoise waters perfect for windsurfing have made Hurghada, on Egypt's Red Sea Coast, a busy resort town. Within easy reach of the stunning Giftun Islands and the Eastern Arabian Desert, Hurghada has seen enormous amounts of development in the past decade—and yes, it does seem overrun with tourists at times. But it’s a relatively easy beach escape for Europeans, and some of the world's best diving and snorkeling sites are just offshore. Walk or catch a cab to explore the old quarter, El Dahar.
